Hilton Spence was founded by Laura Spence with a clear vision: to create a specialist family law firm that combined legal excellence with a bespoke, client-centred experience.
Family law is unique in that it touches every aspect of a person’s life. Laura felt strongly that individuals need more than legal advice alone; they need a firm where care and trust come first, forming the foundation for every decision that follows.
Our offices are designed to reflect this ethos - a place to feel at ease surrounded by the same attention to detail and intention that defines the firm. It’s a space that provides some calm in the chaos, and confidence at a time of uncertainty, even while navigating life’s most complex transitions.

Meet Laura Spence
Founder & Family Law Specialist
Laura lives with her Husband and miniature dachshund Cooper, in West Kirby. She is an experienced lawyer, having worked in the family law sector exclusively since 2017.
Laura is known for her ability to navigate complex matters with a strategic insight, intuition and precision. She has built her reputation achieving outstanding results, whilst maintaining a calm, solution-focussed presence.
Beyond her technical expertise, Laura understands first-hand the emotional complexity her clients and their families face. For her, family law is more than legal strategy; it’s being present for people at their most challenging moments, and guiding them through change. She reflects:

Those difficult times and lived experience have become my purpose as a lawyer, and shaped me into someone who can walk alongside clients with understanding and insight.

Outside of client work, Laura is committed to promoting excellence and collaboration within the local legal community. She is a Director of the Liverpool Law Society; serves as the Society’s Parliamentary Liaison Officer; and is Chair of Resolution Merseyside.
Approach & Experience
Trained at a boutique family law firm in Hale, South Manchester, Laura developed an early appreciation for the importance of a client-focussed approach. After relocating to the Wirral in 2020, Laura joined the highly regarded team at Hill Dickinson LLP.
Her experience of both boutique and international practice has shaped the approach that underpins her work - strategic, meticulous and client-centred. The relationships she builds with clients are grounded in trust and clear communication.
Laura regularly acts in matters with complex aspects including intricate business structures, property portfolios, and high-value pensions. She has been involved in a number of significant cases before the High Court and the Court of Appeal, including:
